The Australia Pacific Climate Partnership supported the Australia Awards Fellowship Program: Advancing climate, health, and equity outcomes through local action in the Indo-Pacific held in 3rd of November to 14th of December by the University of Melbourne and the Pacific Climate Change Centre (SPREP). The program brought together Fellows from Asia and Pacific to build additional skills, networks, and resources to drive action on climate, health, and equity priorities in their respective countries across the Indo-Pacific. Fellows came from National Climate Change Divisions,  Ministries of Health and research institutions.

Clare White, APCP Climate Change Adviser and Deputy Team Leader, presented on translating knowledge for impact on Monday the 11th of December. The presentation highlighted APCP’s principles and best practice guidance for integration of climate and disaster resilience into development programs as well as products on climate and health (see list below).

The ‘Health Risks of Climate Change in the Western Pacific Brief’ was launched which summarises key health risks of climate change such as heat related illnesses and mortality, vector and water borne diseases, malnutrition and food borne diseases, non-communicable diseases, respiratory diseases and mental health. It then highlights the WHO ten building blocks for climate resilient health systems from the Operational Framework for Building Climate Resilient Health Systems with actions for the Pacific context.

The discussion focused on specific contexts in Asia and Pacific and actions for practical integration of climate and disaster resilience as well as tailoring knowledge of climate change to decision makers.
