Congratulations to the Pacific women leading the way in climate change negotiations at the global level. This week, women from across the region gathered in Nadi to take part in a four-day climate change training held by the Women’s Environment Development Organisation (WEDO), with experts from the Australia Pacific Climate Partnership offering advice.

International climate negotiations are hugely important to the future of Pacific Island countries and women from across the Pacific government are honing their negotiation knowledge and leadership skills in preparation for the annual 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Santiago, Chile in December. The program has been running since 2017 and alumni return to mentor new negotiators.

While the climate change conference negotiations continue to be dominated by men, Australia is committed to supporting Pacific women to increasingly take a key role in advocating for their region in international negotiations.
