The geodetic and technical teams from SPC (Pacific Community) collaborated recently to upgrade the Aquatrak pressure sensor gauges at two stations in the Pacific.

The Aquatrak sensors needed to be elevated to maintain the high quality of the sea level data recorded in the region.

In December 2019, in Kiribati, the sensor head was moved 500mm higher because the signal was clipping at very high tide.

It was also an opportunity to undertake tide gauge maintenance and geodetic surveys, combined with the 18-monthly routine visits in collaboration with Bureau of Meteorology staff and with the national meteorology and survey staff.

This month in the Republic of Marshall Islands, the geodetic and technical teams from SPC worked together to upgrade the Aquatrak pressure sensor gauge at Majuro.

The team conducted the upgrade in collaboration with the national survey staff.

This work is part of the Pacific Sea Level and Geodetic Monitoring Project which operates under the Climate and Oceans Support Program in the Pacific (COSPPac).
